6 September 2017. Against at the Almeida

The Almeida rather hyped this new play but it got -deservedly -mixed reviews. All were agreed on the quality of the acting by Ben Whishaw and the rest of the cast but the play itself was found wanting. I agree. It was a way of passing the evening but will not stick in my memory. It deals with a young, bright, socially awkward tech-billionaire named Luke who seems to fancy himself as Jesus, going to scenes of conflict and violence and trying to instill a peaceful kalma. He teams up with the adoring Sheila but seems very reluctant to consumate the relationship. It all ends ugly when he tries to calm a gunman on the loose at Equator (an Amazon like monster company) that Luke is visiting.
